Deportivo La Coruna have accepted a bid from Newcastle for Argentina defender Fabricio Coloccini.
A statement on Depor's official website, www.canaldeportivo.com, confirmed the two clubs reached a verbal agreement last week and that has now been followed up with a formal written offer. Depor claim the fee could rise to 13 million euros.

The statement read: "Real Club Deportivo and Newcastle have agreed the transfer of Fabricio Coloccini to the English club. The clubs had reached a verbal agreement last week which was (on Thursday) confirmed in writing."

The South American, 26, arrived at Deportivo in January 2005 from AC Milan and has gone on to establish himself as one of the best central defenders in the Primera Liga.

Coloccini has made no secret of his desire to move to St James' Park with his agent even suggesting his client would walk out on Depor if they tried to scupper the move.
